Serving the nation is just the beginning of an Agniveer’s journey. Once their four-year tenure in the Armed Forces comes to an end, Uttarakhand wants to ensure they return home to a future filled with promising career opportunities.
In a first-of-its-kind initiative, Uttarakhand is set to establish a dedicated Agniveer Employment Cell (ARC) to help returning Agniveers transition smoothly into civilian life. The state aims to turn the discipline, skills and leadership qualities they gain in the armed forces into meaningful career opportunities across government and private sectors.
The employment cell will open doors to five major career paths for former Agniveers: government jobs, central security forces, private sector roles, tourism and disaster management, and self-employment opportunities.
Instead of leaving Agniveers to figure out their next steps on their own, the initiative will provide career guidance and connect them with suitable employment options. Opportunities are expected to be available in sectors such as the police department, forest services, disaster management and several private industries.
The move comes ahead of the return of the first batch of Agniveers, who will complete their four years of service on December 31, 2026. The state government plans to have the employment cell fully operational before they return.
Under the Agnipath scheme, young men and women between the ages of 17.5 and 21 are recruited into the Army, Navy and Air Force for a four-year tenure. While 25% of them will continue serving in the regular armed forces from February 1, 2027, the remaining 75% will move into civilian life, making post-service career support an important priority.
To make the transition easier, every returning Agniveer will be registered online and their skills will be mapped through a digital skill bank. Their military training, technical expertise and professional strengths will be recorded to help identify suitable job opportunities. Those who wish to enhance their qualifications can also opt for short-term skill development and upgradation courses lasting 10 to 15 days.
The Uttarakhand government plans to facilitate employment opportunities across more than 50 sectors, including tourism, hospitality, security services, logistics, infrastructure, agriculture, sports, manufacturing and disaster management. The employment cell will work as a bridge between trained Agniveers, government departments, skill development agencies and private employers.
The initiative will function under the direct supervision of the Chief Minister’s Office to ensure better coordination. Uttarakhand has already announced a 10% horizontal reservation for Agniveers in state government jobs, and they will also receive priority consideration during recruitment by the Uttarakhand Police and central security forces.
For many Agniveers, military service is the first chapter of their professional journey. With this initiative, Uttarakhand hopes to make the next chapter just as meaningful by helping them find rewarding careers and continue contributing to society long after they have completed their service to the nation.
